Neighbors,
We need your help! With the termination of the Goose Buster services effective this year, we are seeing an increase in the presence of water fowl. Unless we can manage the current numbers, the HOA may have to consider alternate methods to reduce the population of geese. Per the SC DNR website, as densities increase problems proportionally follow. Concentrations of Canada geese can cause problems by overgrazing lawns and by depositing large accumulations of feathers and feces. The number 1 consideration for resident goose control per SC DNR is to discontinue feeding or any other unnecessary activity that may be attracting geese. Feeding concentrates birds, conditions birds to be less wary of humans and renders most dispersal techniques ineffective. Canada geese are very capable of finding their own forage, making well intentioned hand-outs unnecessary. There is already signage in the common areas stating no feeding of ducks or geese, but we are requesting that homeowners also not feed the wildlife on their private properties, as the Grounds Committee investigates options to control the goose population to present to the neighborhood.
